We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Blackhawks October 9th season opener against the Dallas Stars.

We are getting closer to the Chicago Blackhawks season opener so today in fashion we will be honoring Tomas Kopecky days until the Blackhawks season opener as we hit day # 82. Tomas Kopecky is the only Chicago Blackhawks player to fashion the # 82 sweater during the long history of players within the organization. On  July 1, 2009 Tomas Kopecky signed with the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent after parting ways with the Detroit Red Wings. His contract was for 2 years valued at 1.2 million per season.

In his first year with the team in 74 games he scored 10 goals and 11 assists finding a starting spot on usually the third or fourth line, depending on where Joel Quenneville wanted him that night. That is why he was a special piece of their 2010 Stanley Cup Championship, playing in 17 games and scoring 4 goals (1 game winning) and 2 assists.

In his second season with the Blackhawks he started right where he left off and improved on his playing time and stats positioned on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa. During the regular season he end up scoring 15 goals, 27, assists, and 42 PIM to help the team out. Unfortunately once the Chicago Blackhawks reached the playoffs to face the Vancouver Canucks he was taken out of Game 1 with and upper body injury and did not return to the series. The Blackhawks ended up losing the series in 7 very close games.

On June 27 just days before Tomas Kopecky was up for free agency the Chicago Blackhawks traded him to the Florida Panthers for his exclusive negotiating rights and in return the Blackhawks received a 7th round pick in a future NHL Entry Draft. Just 2 days later on June 29, 2011 Tomas Kopecky signed a multi-year year contract totaling 4 years for 12 million dollars.

Below is a look at his all-time regular season numbers as a Blackhawk
