19. New York Islanders:

Significant Additions: Mikhail Grabovski, Nikolai Kuleman, Chad Johnson, T.J. Brennan, Jack Skille.

Significant Losses:

The additions of Grabovski and Kuleman were he upgrades for the Islanders. They have added to a strong core and could be building something nice with their core. Hopefully John Tavares comes back healthy and the Islanders might pack a lot of offensive punch next season.

18. New York Rangers:

Significant Additions: Dan Boyle, Tanner Glass, Mike Kostka

It’s simple with the Rangers, they lost two many pieces off of their Stanley Cup team. Dan Boyle was a nice addition but not enough to make up for their losses. The buyout of Brad Richards was necessary move but will probably hurt them the most.

17. Detroit Red Wings:

Significant Additions: Kevin Porter, Dan Cleary

Detroit was once a destination for free agents who wanted a chance to win a cup. Detroit is no longer that place instead people are staying away from Detroit. The Red Wings did see some great progress from Gustav Nyquist. They will need a healthy Pavel Datsyuk and another big year from Nyquist to return to the playoffs.

16. Washington Capitals:

Significant Additions: Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik, and Justin Peters.

The Capitals brought in a new coach in Barry Trotz, they overpaid two defensemen and did not upgrade their goal tending situation. Will the defense first style of Trotz play well with the offensive minded Capitals? Can Alex Ovechkin finally break through and win a ring? Based on their offseason the Capitals will once again have to score 3 to 4 goals a game to defeat teams. It will be another disappointing year for the Capitals.

15. Ottawa Senators:

Significant Additions: David Legwand, Alex Chiasson

The Senators have been losing franchise players left and right. Last off season Daniel Alfredsson left via free agency. This offseason Jason Spezza was traded away to Dallas for Alex Chiasson. The Senators then signed David Legwand to make up for the loss. The Legwand signing does not negate losing Spezza. The Senators will be a middle of the road team this season.
