Duncan Keith may have taken home the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman this year, but EA Sports, the makers of NHL 15, don’t seem to agree.
Keith is second to Nashville Predators blue-liner Shea Weber as the video-game’s highest rated defenseman, EA Sports announced on Monday.
All defensemen are rated in six categories, from a scale of one to five stars: Shooting, Defense, Skating, Physicality, Puck Skills, and Senses.
EA Sports had this to say about their assessment on Keith:
"“Last year’s Norris Trophy winner lacks that huge physical element to his game, but makes up for it with five-star Puck Skills, Senses, Skating and Defense attributes.”"
Rounding out the top five are Drew Doughty, Ryan Suter, and Zdeno Chara, respectively.
EA Sports points out that all of the last five Stanley Cup Champions have had one of those blue-liners on their team: The Los Angeles Kings with Doughty in 2012 and 2014, Keith with the Blackhawks in 2010 and 2013, and Chara with the Bruins in 2011. All three teams remain NHL heavyweights going into the 2014-15 season, and there is no doubt that these defensemen are the common denominator for a reason.
