We’re heading into the dog days of the offseason, counting the days until the Chicago Blackhawks 2014 Season kicks off. We’re going to do a Top 100 list of all time Chicago Blackhawks. It’s a fun way to pass the time and take a stroll down Memory Lane.

Darryl Sutter was the definition of hard-nosed hockey player, and he played that way for his entire career which were all with the Blackhawks. He like all the Sutter’s were great leaders and Sutter earned the C on his sweater which he wore from 1982 until he retired in 1987.

Sutter was also an excellent goal scorer which he proved in his rookie season with 40 and his 1985 playoff run which he scored 12 times including 4 game winners.  Sutter was often hurt which meant his all-time stats don’t look that impressive even though he could score with the best of them.

Sutter retired early due to his injuries and in 1993 became the Blackhawks head coach and helped lead them to the Conference Finals in 1995 before falling to the Detroit Red Wings.  His coaching record was 192-167-60 with a playoff record of 18-24.

Of course as we all know Sutter had to leave the Blackhawks organization to finally lift the Stanley Cup as the coach of the LA Kings.

Sutter is still full of grit, determination, and leadership which makes him a great coach, and during his playing days he was a fantastic Blackhawk and Captain of the Blackhawks.

What is your memory of Darryl Sutter? Too high or Too low for Sutter in our rankings?
