We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again. In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Blackhawks October 9th season opener against the Dallas Stars.
Like a lot of numbers in the 40’s a lot of players have worn the number but they haven’t worn it for very long, Joakim Nordstrom currently wears #42 so we are going to take a look at his short career. We are just going to list the other Blackhawks that have worn 42,
Warren Rychel (1991)
Ryan McGill (1992)
Rick Lanz (1992)
Jeff Jackson (1992)
Rob Conn (1992)
Steve Bancroft (1993)
Steve Poapst (2001)
Jon Klemm (2002-2004)
Michal Barinka (2004-2006)
Jordan Hendry (2008)
Shawn Lalonde (2013)
Nordstrom 2014 Stats
Chicag0-16 games 1 Goals 2 Assists -2, 2 Penalty Minutes Playoffs- 7 Games No points
Rockford- 58 games 17 goals 16 assists +9
Joel Quenneville really seems to like Nordstrom which was evident when he made the 2013 opening day roster which was a surprise to many. Nordstrom picked up his first goal but though he showed off speed and defensive ability the game was too much for him and a full slate of games in Rockford was just what the doctor ordered. Nordstrom made it back to Chicago around the time that Patrick Kane was out with his injury and looked much more comfortable with his surroundings so much so that Quenneville used him in the playoffs much to the dismay of people calling for Jeremy Morin to make it in the playoff lineup.

Nordstrom time in Chicago this season looks to be based entirely on salary cap which really won’t be decided until the Blackhawks make a trade and how much cap wiggle room they create. Nordstrom has potential to fill Marcus Kruger‘s shoes even though they have Phillip Danault tabbed for that role. Nordstrom will be in Chicago someday it just seems like Rockford is where he needs to be for the time being to improve his craft.
Where do you think Nordstrom should play this season?
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Faceoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on October 9th. We’re 42 days from the season opener. Is it October yet???
