James Black Days Until The Blackhawks Season Opener

We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Blackhawks  October 9th season opener against the Dallas Stars.

Finally we are in September!!! As we look at the Blackhawks that have worn #38 the list is well not that impressive but it’s still fun to look at all the former Blackhawks so here are all the former #38’s!

1. Kent Paynter-1989 Paynter played three games with Chicago without registering a point.  He played 37 NHL games with 1 goal and 3 assists.

2. James Black-1996-1998 Black played in 129 contests with the Blackhawks scoring 25 goals and 29 assists. His NHL career ended with the Washington Capitals with career totals of 352 career games played 58 goals 57 assists.


Jamie Allison

-1999-2000 Allison also wore #33 with the Blackhawks in his 208 games played with the Hawks, he had 7 goals 23 assists and 356 penalty minutes during his stay in Chicago. Here is a Allison fight while wearing #33.

4. Nolan Baumgartner-2001 Baumgartner stayed only 8 games in Chicago not scratching the scoresheet. His NHL career ended with the Vancouver Canucks after 143 games played with 7 goals and 40 assists.

5. Jason Morgan-2006 Morgans stay was also brief playing only 7 games with one goal and one assist.

6. Bryan Bickell-2007-2008 Bickell broke in with the Hawks wearing #38 before changing to his familiar #29. While wearing #38 he played in  7 games during two season picking up 2 goals.


Cristobal Huet

-Huet played two seasons with the Hawks his first wearing #38. In the 2008-2009 season Huet went 20-15-4 with 2.53 Goals Against Average in a back up role.
