Chicago Blackhawks 2014-2015 Over/Under Preview- Marcus Kruger

By Skylar Peters

The calendar has finally turned to September and so it’s time to bring back one of our traditional favorites over/under.  We predict the Blackhawks players stats and you tell us if you think they will go over or under those stats! It’s a fun way to preview the season and we look forward to your comments! Is It October 9th in Dallas yet?

Today, we look at one of the Blackhawks’ most consistent bottom-six forwards in the past years, Marcus Kruger.

Kruger has been a jack-of-all-trades through his three full seasons with the ‘Hawks, spending time as the third-line center during five-on-five play, as well as being a staple of the Blackhawks’ penalty kill, which has been one of the NHL’s best during that time.

Kruger also knows how to stay healthy, playing in 81 of the Blackhawks’ 82 games in 13-14, and 199 of 212 in the past three years. Last season, his 28 points was good enough to land him in the 11th position among the Blackhawks, with 8 goals and 20 assists. He averaged .35% points-per-game, a career high.

This season, Kruger has set the bar quite high for himself. With an Olympic silver medal and a Stanley Cup ring to his credit, big things are coming from the 24-year old Swede.

2014-2015 over/under- We predict Kruger will reap the benefits of the Blackhawks’ great depth, facing favorable match-ups as opponents focus on Chicago’s top two lines. We think Kruger will break the 30-point and 10-goal plateaus for the first time in his young career, finishing with 11 goals and 23 assists, totalling 34 points while playing in 80 games.

Kruger is immediately better off with anyone other than Brandon Bollig on his wing, and although his penalty-kill duties will prevent him from offensive opportunity, you can expect Marcus Kruger to set a few career-high numbers in his fourth season.
