We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again. The calendar has turned into September ,we look at jersey numbers from past and present as we count down the days until October 9th and opening night against the Dallas Stars.
We are down to 28 days until the Blackhawks season opener and normally we would talk about Ben Smith who currently wears #28, but as much as we like Ben Smith’s game night and night out today is #28 and a number we feel should be retired.
#28 Should be hanging from the United Center already to honor the great career of Steve Larmer. If you look up Larmer’s career he’s in the Top 5 in almost every major offensive category along side Blackhawks greatsStan Mikita
, andDenis Savard
who’s numbers already hang in the rafters of the United Center.
Larmer was a tenacious scorer who played on a line with Savard and Al Secord and they were fantastic and the Old Stadium would be deafening when one of them scored. Larmer along with all those great 70,80, and 90’s players were unable to win the Stanley Cup he did get his name on the Cup with his old coach Mike Keenan with the Rangers.

Larmer is only one of 3 Blackhawks with over 400 career goals and yet the Hawks have chosen not to honor him.
There have been quite a few Blackhawks to have worn #28 but it’s Larmer’s number and should be that way from now on!
Do you think Larmer’s number should be retired?
