We’re counting the days until the Chicago Blackhawks 2014 Season kicks off. We’re doing a Top 100 list of all time Chicago Blackhawks. It’s a fun way to pass the time and take a stroll down Memory Lane as we head towards opening night on October 9th in Dallas.
Bill Mosienko 1941-1955
Bill Mosienko’s biggest achievement in the NHL was scoring a hat trick in 21 seconds on March 23, 1952 and turning a 6-2 third period deficit against the New York Rangers to a 7-6 victory for the Blackhawks. The record of 3 goals in 21 seconds is still a record that seems very unlikely to ever be topped or duplicated. Click here for the video of the great night by Mosienko.
Mosienko joined Doug Bentley and Ab McDonald on the Pony Line which was one of the most feared lines of the 1940’s. Mosienko won the Lady Byng in 1945 and was a great player but was on some pretty bad teams in the late 40’s and early 50’s.
Mosienko last skated on Chicago Stadium ice in 1955 yet almost 60 years later he still ranks 10th all-time in Blackhawks points and for most NHL fans his career is overshadowed by his one great night and his record.
Another reason to like Mosienko is that after he retired he owned Billy Mosienko Bowling Lanes for years in Winnipeg!
