The Chicago Blackhawks rookies finished out their Rookie Tournament in Toronto with a loss to the Ottawa Senators rookies. The loss came in the shootout for the second straight game.

The Hawks reinstated Mac Carruth in goal, and Chris Dreiger manned the net for Ottawa.

In the first period, there were two fights in the first five minutes of the game. There was no score until Teuvo Teravainen fired a shot on goal which was saved by Dreiger, but the rebound came right to the stick of Mark McNeil who put it in. After a blue line turnover, and with the defense out of position, Ryan Dzingel went right up the middle and put in  a backhand over Carruth to tie the game, but Viktor Svedberg gave the Hawks the lead with 2.5 seconds left, and the first ended with the Hawks up 2-1.

Early in the second though, Francis Perron tied the game for Ottawa, and seemingly moments later, Carruth let a very weak shot go through to give the Senators the lead. The Hawks ended the second period down 3-2.

Brett Welychka had a good goal go off of his skate to start the Blackhawks scoring in the third stanza, but Darren Kramer got the lead right back for Ottawa. Teuvo then took over, and played well in the third, but his greatest highlight was his spin pass to McNeil for the tying goal. That goal would be the last of regulation, and you can see it here:

The game would remain scoreless in the overtime, even with the new rules in place, and the shootout would go six shooters before Nick Paul finally put it away for Ottawa.

McNeil finished with points (2 goals, 1 assist), and Teuvo has 3 assists.

The Hawks rookies finished this tournament 0-1-2.
