We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again. The calendar has turned into September ,we look at jersey numbers from past and present as we count down the days until October 9th and opening night against the Dallas Stars.

We are down to #22 in our countdown that heads us to a player that had a huge hand in the Blackhawks last Stanley Cup.  Mayers didn’t play a lot for the Blackhawks in 2013, but he was huge in the locker room and it ended with Mayers getting his first Stanley Cup in his final NHL season.

Mayers by all accounts was the reason the Blackhawks were able to come back from the 3-1 deficit they found themselves in during the 2nd round of the playoffs against the Detroit Red Wings. Mayers rallied the troops and the comeback would be completed a week later on a Brent Seabrook OT winner.

There have been quite a few #22’s in Blackhawks history, but Mayers got his name on the Cup for his leadership.
