The Chicago Blackhawks Edge The Red Wings in the Preseason Opener.

Tonight was a first for the Blackhawks. It was the first time the Blackhawks preseason opener had ever been televised. The Blackhawks took on the Red wings in their first of six preseason games. The Blackhawks lineup featured some regulars In Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp, Marian Hossa, Patrick Kane, and Brad Richards. The Blackhawks also featured some younger guys in Phillip Danault, Matt Carey, Mashhinter, and others.

Corey Crawford started off in net for the Blackhawks. The Red Wings got to Crawford in the first period with a tip-in goal from Luke Glendening. Crawford played a little over 30 minutes. Crawford allowed one goal on 14 shots. He was relieved by Scott Darling who saved eight of eight shots on the night. The Blackhawks would not get on the board until the second period. Patrick Kane who looked in midseason form scored on nice pass from Brad Richards. The duo of Kane and Richards seemed too impress in the Blackhawks first preseason game.

The game would go into overtime tied at 1. Duncan Keith sent the United Center faithful happy as he scored the game winner in overtime. The Blackhawks won 2-1.

NEWS and Notes:

  • The Blackhawks Ice Girls featured more conservative outfits and will wear them all season.
  • The “stripper” was not played tonight during shoot the puck although Cuba Gooding Jr. did strip off his shirt during that segment. This shoot the puck segment might not be topped all season long.
  • The Blackhawks cut their roster down to 46 players today.

The next televised Blackhawks Preseason game will be Friday at 7:30pm on CSN-Ch+ against the New York Rangers.
