Training Camp to Preseason

From Training Camp to Preseason means we’re one step closer to October 11th. After reviewing the Blackhawks training camp and their first preseason game against the Detroit Redwings, its apparent to me the Rockford IceHogs are going to have one heck of a season. The call-ups this season will put a competitive edge into the team as the pecking order is determined and it will be exciting to watch. The AHL has always had a presence in Rockford, but with the recent turn of events, I expect a boom in popularity and game attendance. I personally won a signed Teuvo Teravainen IceHog jersey at a raffle this past weekend. I’m displaying the #21 proudly with my other IceHog and Blackhawk collectibles in hopes he does well and would like to someday obtain a signed #86 Blackhawk jersey bearing the same name, pronounced TAY-voh tair-uh-VIGH-nehn, and thank goodness nicknamed TT. So far, TT has not been disappointing.

During the 5 days at Notre Dame and the first preseason game the youngsters put on a great show. Its time to pick our “3 Top Hogs”, a new series here that I’ll be contributing to for this 2014-15 season. It’s hard to miss the video of Teuvo Teravainen’s “no look” pass to Mark McNeill for a goal in the Rookie Tournament. Definitely a chemistry brewing here when in camp, the favor was returned as TT scored with a quick pass from McNeill during the Training Camp Festival scrimmage game that packed a full house at the United Center. No doubt about my pick for #1 and #2 right there. Looking forward to seeing them on Rockford ice. As for #3 it gets a little tougher. All eyes were on Stephen Johns, Jeremy Morin and Phillip Danault, who had two great hits and two blocked shots vs. Detroit, but since the #freemorin campaign just won’t go away, he’s my pick for #3 Top Hog. He was on the ice for the preseason goal and looks promising for the fourth line with Ben Smith and Marcus Kruger, who incidentally were also great Hogs. Rockford’s loss is Chicago’s gain. Miss them in Rockford, love seeing them in the Blackhawks sweaters.

What do you think? Let me know your picks for the “3 Top Hogs”. Thanks for reading.
