We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again. The calendar has turned into September ,we look at jersey numbers from past and present as we count down the days until October 9th and opening night against the Dallas Stars.
We are down to 13 days until the Blackhawks opening night and we come to a number that is very low but worn by very few. Two of the three players to have worn #13 were pretty controversial not because of their play but the circumstances.
Alex Zhamnov came to Chicago as part of the Jeremy Roenick trade and he never could erase the pain of the Blackhawks trading away one of the biggest fan favorites ever. Roenick was a scorer, hitter and bigger than life leading the Blackhawks to the 1992 Stanley Cup Final while Zhamnov was well Russian to begin with and pretty much the total opposite of Roenick. Zhamnov has some nice career stats while wearing #13 for the Blackhawks but he couldn’t lead the Blackhawks to the promise land let alone replace a legend.

Daniel Carcillo has to go down as the strangest signing in the Stan Bowman era. If there ever was a player that didn’t fit the system (Pretty sure he doesn’t fit any system) was Carcillo. Carcillo hurt his knee on opening night of 2013 after taking himself out with a knee injury in 2012 and while he danced on the ice after the Hawks won the 2013 Stanley Cup he wasn’t really a part of the win and he was gone quickly after.
Which 13 was your favorite?
