Coach Quenneville has been prone to keep an extra defensemen early on in the season. Earlier this week Coach Joel Quenneville said they would keep eight defenseman when Michal Rozsival returned. Rozsvial is scheduled to make his regular season debut on Saturday against the Nashville Predators.

The plan apparently changed as today the Blackhawks waived defenseman Kyle Cumiskey. Cumiskey has yet to appear in a game with the Blackhawks. Most of the playing time had gone to David Rundblad and Trevor van Reimsdyk. Van Reimsdyk had gotten to majority of the minutes and played well as of late.

Cumiskey played the last two seasons in the SweHL with the Modo Hockey Ornskoldsvik. In 2012-13, he appeared in 45 games and 7 goals and 25 assists. Last he appeared in 45 games and had 4 goals and 24 assists.

For his NHL career, he has appeared in 132 games with 9 goals and 26 assists. All of his NHL games were with the Colorado Avalanche. He was with the Avalanche from 2006-07 to 2010-11. His best season with the Avalanche was in 2009-10. He appeared in 61 games with 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points and a rating of -3.

If Cuminsky clears waivers, he will be assigned to the AHL Rockford Ice Hogs. There has been no word on who will fill his roster spot.
