Like Toews, Kane met his high expectations in Week 2, proving to be an offensive force against the Philadelphia Flyers, and doing the little things right everywhere else, earning him a First Star ballot. Kane’s two goals on Tuesday against the Hawks’ 2010 Stanley Cup Finals opponent were his only points in the past three games, giving him 3 goals and 2 assists through five games this year. What is impressive about Kane’s game, however, is his new-found defensive game, and the ability to play big minutes even if he’s not in the offensive zone. Kane played 23:38, 19:38, and 18:08 respectively in the Blackhawks’ three games this week, and scored all of his points in the least amount of Time On Ice. Defensive zone starts and great backchecking are some things Blackhawks’ fans have noticed, and it’s making #88 a more complete player, and a huge asset to the team.
