I’m surprised it lasted 6 games, but all it took was for my own eyes to see it for an entire game live in Nashville to finally put Brad Richards on the Milk Carton.  Richards for all intent and purposes is a bit faster Michal Handzus and is the new anchor to the Blackhawks lineup.

Richards signed a 1 year 2 million dollar contract to become the Blackhawks 2nd line center that the team has needed and the fanbase has dreamed about for years yet he couldn’t even break camp and preseason as the #2 center.  One would say that Richards not being the #2 center is a Joel Quenneville issue and not Richards, but if Quenneville would play Handzus as the #2 center for a season and a half Richards had to show absolutely nothing to Q to not be the 2nd line center.

Last night Richards was a -1 and basically if you weren’t looking for him on the ice every shift you would have never have even known he played last night which would make 5 out of 6 games that Richards was nothing more than 10-15 minutes of skating and nothing to show for it except a 0 or minus rating.

Sure it’s cool that the Blackhawks can skate 3 Conn Smythe winners on 3 different lines, but Richards isn’t up to that type of talent level anymore.  The Hawks could have saved the 2 million from the Richards deal and played Teuvo Teravainen and probably kept Nick Leddy, but instead we are stuck with another veteran center way past his prime with nothing left in the gas tank.

The word is he’s acclamated but isn’t that window closed now?  Richards was a bad signing and now we have 76 more games to watch this train wreck!
