I figured it would be appropriate for us to learn a little bit about the goalie that will probably be starting tonight against the Ottawa Senators. That goalie is Scott Darling.  Scott who you ask? Exactly.  You’ve never heard of him and neither had I until this year, but Mr. Darling could be the next big thing to look out for in the Hawks organization.  Not just because he is a 6’6 behemoth between the pipes, but he also possesses a respectable set of skills.

During the preseason Scott Darling had some pretty impressive numbers in the crease.  Although he only played ninety-one minutes in the preseason, Darling did not yield a single goal, stopping all twenty-seven shots he faced.  Darling has also appeared in two games in Rockford this season where he has posted a 2-0-0 record with a save percentage of .948 and a goals against average of 1.44.

What else is there to know about Scott Darling?  He prefers Pepsi over Coke and likes classic rock more than country.  I’m just kidding about that, but he did attend the University of Maine where he played two seasons before turning pro.   In 2007 Darling was drafted in the sixth round, 153rd overall, by the team formally known as the Phoenix Coyotes.  Darling is just twenty-five years of age, an age where goalies usually begin to find their stride. He has never appeared in an NHL regular season game, but owns a 15-6-2 record through twenty-nine AHL games.

Scott Darling is a native of Lemont, Illinois and has been a lifelong Blackhawks fan.  What a dream come true it must be for him to don the Blackhawks sweater and start in net for the team he grew up adoring.  Let’s hope he can go out there and get the W and put a great end to such a special day for him.
