3 Top Hogs From Another Perspective

By Cindy Crawford

Take a look at this week’s 3 Top Hogs from another perspective. The Rockford IceHogs are leading the AHL Western Conference with an impressive 9-2-0-1. That is a lot of Top Hogs playing very well. However, the recent injuries of Corey Crawford, and now Patrick Sharp have put the spotlight on the IceHogs in a different view. Which Top Hogs will be called up? Today’s recent call for Peter Regin from the Chicago Blackhawks makes things interesting and surprising to the #FreeTuevo campaign supporters.

Peter Regin’s performance with the IceHogs has been consistent and has made him this season’s top scorer in Rockford (4g-6a). He played in 17 regular 2013-14 games for the Blackhawks tallying four points 2g-2a and we saw his name in five of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Regin is tied with Mark McNeill in points for the IceHogs. The 28-year-old forward joins Jeremy Morin and Scott Darling in the Top Hogs receiving the call from Chicago. Darling is making his mark with both the Blackhawks and the IceHogs and is my next hopeful for backup goalie. I’m pretty sure we’ll see him at the United Center again soon. Morin is still impressing us with his performances in a Blackhawk sweater and now it’s #ReginTime.

The question is how will Coach Q mix up his lines without Sharp? In practice today it looked like the first line didn’t change keeping Ben Smith, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Second line required the replacement, which looked like Andrew Shaw, Marian Hossa and Brandon Saad in for Sharp. Third were Marcus Kruger, Bryan Bickell, and Kris Versteeg putting Peter Regin in the fourth with Brad Richards and Jeremy Morin.

Personally, I agree with the first line but would like to see Shaw, Hossa, Versteeg and Regin, Bickell, Saad and Kruger, Richards, Morin. Spread out the youngsters and allow Richards to improve on his rhythm a bit more. If the Blackhawks need to make another call, Mark McNeill would be a good choice. #FreeMcNeill. What do you think?

3 Top Hogs include Peter Regin with congratulations and good luck in Chicago, Scott Darling for his continued success in both the AHL and the NHL and Mark McNeill who we’ll be watching as he keeps up the good work in Rockford.
