The Blackhawks take a bite out of the Sharks 5-2!

The Blackhawks came into tonight game riding a three game home losing streak. Meanwhile the San Jose Sharks had come back from down three goals against the Stars on Saturday night. They had lost just one game in their last six games. It was another battle of a Blackhawks goalie and a former Blackhawks goalie in Antti Niemi. The Blackhawks prevailed 5-2 in their first home win in their last 4 home games.

Here is the period recap:

1st period: The first period was dominated by the Blackhawks. The Sharks were coming off a back to back in Dallas. The Blackhawks outshot the Sharks 20 to 9.

The Blackhawks got off to a hot start when Trevor Van Riemsdyk scored on a slap shot. It was TVRs first NHL goal of his career. At 14:10 in the first period, Brent Seabrook added the second goal of the game for the Blackhawks. Seabrook and TVR’s goals were aided by net front presence. The Blackhawks would drop the Hammer on the Sharks in the first period as Niklas Hjalmarsson scored the Blackhawks third goal of the game. This was the first time the Blackhawks had three goals by defensemen in a period since 1992. The Sharks did not go quietly as they added a late period goal. Joe Pavelski scored his seventh goal of the season.

2nd period: The second period was owned by the San Jose Sharks. The Blackhawks looked a sleep for the period. The Sharks outshot the Blackhawks 13-6. The Blackhawks penalty kill allowed a goal on the Andrew Shaw double minor. Pavelski added his second goal of the game to cut the lead to one goal. The Sharks were firmly in charge of the game as this point.

3rd period: In the third period the Blackhawks cemented the victory. After struggling through the second period, the Blackhawks found some energy. Bryan Bickell scored the Blackhawks fourth goal and the put the game out of reach for the Sharks. The Bickell goal was a great individual effort. The Captain Jonathan Toews would add a shorthanded goal to finish off the Sharks. There was so minor scrap between Kris Versteeg and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Adam Burish and Jeremy Morin finished the game with another fight to end it. The final score was Blackhawks 5 and Sharks 2.
