Chicago Blackhawks Holiday Wish List: Corey Crawford

So you’ve probably already heard by now that Blackhawks #1 goalie Corey Crawford recently sustained a lower-body injury, and will not be able to start in tonight’s home game against the St. Louis Blues.

What you may not yet have heard was exactly how he injured himself.

After practice at the United Center today, Coach Quenneville and Crawford addressed the media regarding his injury, stating that he injured himself by (wait for it…) missing a step during a concert.

It’s pretty rare for any NHL team, let alone the Hawks, to specify the nature of injuries, often leaving it to vague “upper body” or “lower body” descriptors.

Maybe the press conference was a way for Coach Q to somehow indirectly or subtly “shame” him. Something similar to how a parent might let a kid, who cut his own bangs way too short, go out in public so that maybe the stares he gets will teach him not to do the same thing again.

Granted, players have to be able to lead normal lives, so something as simple as going to a concert isn’t really an issue. Stupid freak injuries happen all the time, even to those who are really careful to avoid injuries. Like pro athletes generally do. It’s not like he was in a mosh pit (as far as we know).

However, that won’t stop us from poking a bit of fun at Crow. After all, he has already spent a few weeks out due to injury earlier this season.

While he’s sidelined for the moment watching Antti Raanta (who will start tonight) and Scott Darling (recently recalled from the Rockford IceHogs to back up Raanta) fill in for him, he will have some time to catch up on getting holiday-related things done: card lists, gift lists for others, and figuring out what to ask Santa for Christmas this year, not to mention his upcoming 30th birthday on New Year’s Eve.

We have a preview of the list he has already started to make, and we here at Blackhawk Up have the inside scoop.

Here’s the #1 item on Corey Crawford’s Holiday Wish List:

You’ve guessed it! Bubble wrap. And if he keeps going to concerts this season, it seems like he is going to need several hundred yards of the stuff. He’s slender but pretty tall, so maybe 200 yards of the stuff should do the trick.

All kidding aside, what we all want, especially tonight, is for Raanta Claus to stand on his head tonight and give us a big win against the Blues. We’ve been good Hawks fans this year.
