The Blackhawks have announced that Jeremy Morin has been sent to Rockford. The Blackhawks state that Morin has been sent to the AHL for a conditioning assignment. Morin is currently on a one way contract with the Blackhawks so if he was assigned to Rockford, he could have been able to be claimed by another team.  By being on a conditioning assignment, Morin cannot be claimed by another team.

Here are the rules per the NHL CBA:

13.8 Conditioning Loan. Unless a Player consents, he shall not be Loaned on a Conditioning

Loan to a minor league club. Such Conditioning Loan shall not extend for more than fourteen

(14) consecutive days. The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to

investigate the circumstances under which a Player is Loaned on a Conditioning Loan. If the

Commissioner has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Conditioning Loan

to evade Waivers, or otherwise Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take such

disciplinary action against the Club, as he deems appropriate. The Player shall continue, during

the period of such Conditioning Loan, to receive the same Paragraph 1 NHL Salary, and be

entitled to the same benefits, that he would have received had he continued to play with the Club.

So basically Morin had to agree to the assignment, he still gets his full NHL salary and can only be in Rockford for 14 days. Morin also cannot be claimed by another team.

Now this conditioning assignment could be a precursor to a trade. Yesterday it was reported that Morin has informed the Blackhawks that he would like to play or be traded. The Blackhawks could be getting Morin back in shape before they trade him away.  Morin last appeared in a game on November 20th and has only appeared in 15 games this season. He has 0 goals and 0 assists this season. This is an interesting situation and we shall see how it plays out.
