Chicago Blackhawks Holiday Wish List: Patrick Sharp

Although it has “only” been a little over a month since Patrick Sharp has been sidelined with an injury, it seems like it has been an eternity since we saw him out there on the ice with the rest of the boys where he belongs. The wait is finally over tonight! Sharpy is expected to be in the lineup for tonight’s road game against the New Jersey Devils.

His season stats to date: 9 points in 13 games (3 goals, 6 assists) and is a -2. To be fair, this was when the Hawks were very inconsistent earlier this season, alternating between wins and losses to the chagrin of fans.

While he was out, the Hawks found their stride, rolled four lines, and racked up 6 consecutive wins . . . all without Sharp’s assistance. But the fact that Hawks had more recent success without him doesn’t necessarily mean that the team is better without him. If anything, it is a testament to how deep the guys can dig when a key player is out for a few weeks.

In the long term, the Hawks need Sharpy’s experience, skill, and (dare I say it) veteran presence (and no, I haven’t been hanging out with Coach Quenneville lately, awesome as that would be). Especially when this guy playing like the champ he is. When Sharp is on a roll, he can go on a scoring tear that is rivaled only by his eponymous teammate.

We all hope that Sharp is well-healed and well-rested. He certainly had a bit of time to work on his wish list during his R&R time. We have a sneak preview of the #1 item on his list. Here’s a hint: it rhymes with his name.

Yep, you guessed it:

They don’t call him “Hat-trick Sharp” for nothing. We hope to see that image at the United Center again very soon. Welcome back, Sharpy!
