2.  Mr. Showtime. Patrick Kane tallied a helper on Sunday night off of Patrick Sharp’s power play goal.  But it was his goal on Saturday night that was a thing of beauty.   He took a long pass from Brandon Saad and ran away with it, burying the puck high over the left shoulder of Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak.  The puck was on edge, but he was able to settle it down and control it enough to get the goal.  Few NHL players can do that.  It was Kaner’s 14th goal of the season, and his 10th in the third period.  Clutch goals seem to be his thing, huh?  Keep it up, Mr. Showtime!

1.  How about that Brandon Saad? Brandon Saad is currently 4th on the team in points, with 21. He has 7 goals and 14 assists.  In the Islanders game, Saad stole the puck from none other than our own (used to be) Nick Leddy, for a great break away chance.  A bit later, during an Islander’s power play, Saad muscled control of the puck and burned off the rest of the time being down a man.  It was Brandon Saad that fed the puck up the ice to Kaner for his goal.

Fast forward to Sunday’s match up against the Calgary Flames, and Saad had another great night.  Again he came through on the penalty kill, burning off a good 15-20 seconds of the opponent’s power play time.  Then it was Saader’s turn to be Mr. Clutch.  At 12:57 in the 3rd, Hjalmarsson stole the puck and was able to pass it up the ice to Toews, who in turn fed Saad in stride to the net.  Saad went high and got it past Jonas Hiller for the game winning goal!

Saad looks strong defensively as well as offensively.  He has jump and energy and is doing a great job on Chicago’s 1st line.  I can’t wait to see what else he can do!

The Chicago Blackhawks next host the Minnesota Wild this Tuesday at 7:30 pm.  Is it Tuesday yet?!
