The Blackhawks announced that Duncan Keith has been ruled out of tonight’s game with an illness. Keith has been renowned for logging heavy minutes nightly for the Blackhawks. He is regarded as one of the fittest players on the Blackhawks. The Illness is not known at this time but the concern is that Keith has contracted the mumps. There is a growing concern with mumps being spread thoughtout the league. Sidney Crosby, Beau Bennett, and  Derick Brassard, have been diagnosed with the mumps this week. The rumor floated earlier this week that the Anaheim Ducks were the cause for their spread of the mumps.  The Blackhawks faced the Ducks back on November 28th.  If Keith has mumps, he would not be the first heavy minute defenseman to contract the ilnness. Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild also had the mumps earlier this season.

Regardless of whether Keith has the mumps or not, the Blackhawks are being very cautious with his condition. Keith will be out against the Minnesota Wild tonight, expect Niklas Hjalmarsson to play more minutes with Keith being absent. Keith has 6 goals 12 assists this season and averages 25:53 per game.
