On this date in Chicago Blackhawks history,
On December 17, 1997 at the United Center the Chicago Blackhawks played their 2nd to last 0-0 shut out tie in team history. The Blackhawks have played 33 scoreless ties in their team history, but as you know with the rule changes that were put in place after the original lockout their is no such thing as a TIE!!
The Blackhawks hadn’t played in scoreless tie since the Tony Esposito era 18 years earlier but in of all places Edmonton the home of non-stop scoring in the 80’s, Jeff Hackett and Curtis Joseph put on a show in Edmonton and not a single goal light was lit on this night.
The Blackhawks were led in the 1997-1998 season by Tony Amonte and Eric Daze who both scored 31 goals this season but not a single one could get into the back of the net on a cold December night in 1997.
