The Chicago Blackhawks came to play in week 10 of the NHL season, and despite losing their first game in nearly 3 weeks, the ‘Hawks have since bounced back, and remain atop the Central Division.
The Blackhawks travelled to Long Island in the final game of their four-game road swing, looking to make it nine wins in a row. The New York Islanders had other ideas, scoring twice in the third period, handing the ‘Hawks a 3-2 loss. Less than 24 hours later the Blackhawks got back to their winning ways at home against the Calgary Flames, and Chicago capped off the week with a 5-3 victory against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night.
Third Star: Brandon Saad
The ‘man-child’ has finally found his consistency, and playing inside the top-six every night, even since the return of Patrick Sharp, has boosted the confidence of the Blackhawks’ youngest budding star. Saad kept his hot December going in Week 10 with an assist in over 17 minutes of ice time against the New York Islanders, and found the back of the net the next night against the Flames for his 7th goal of the year, in what turned out to be the game-winner for the home side. Saad has been an excellent complement to Jonathan Toews, and the two have been nearly unstoppable when they hit the ice together. It’s not only Saad that is gaining confidence, as head coach Joel Quenneville has used #20 on the Blackhawks’ power-play unit multiple times in the past several days. If Saad can keep this pace up, the Blackhawks have yet another lethal weapon in their offensive arsenal that continues to be the envy of the league.
