The Blackhawks Reveal New Winter Classic Goalie Masks

With the Winter Classic finally upon us, Coach Joel Quenneville has implied that that Corey Crawford will get the start in net. Crawford on the season is 14-6-2 with a .921 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average. This will be Crawford’s second outdoor game of his career. Crawford is 1-0 in outdoor games. Last year Crawford won 5-1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field.

The Blackhawks are hoping that Crawford recent early period slump will resolve itself the more he plays. When teams are selected to play in the Winter Classic, the teams gets special jerseys and goalies get new masks. The Blackhawks have just revealed Crawford’s new mask.

Crawford was not the only one with a new mask, back-up goalie Antti Raanta also received a new mask for the Winter Classic. This is the second new mask Raanta has received this week. Raanta got new pads and a new mask for “regular” games. If Crawford struggles, we could see Raanta and his mask get off the bench. Raanta is 6-2-0 with .944 save percentage and a 1.73 goals against average.
