That’s exactly what he has brought to the table for the Blackhawks in his first 2 seasons and half of his third. In his first full season with the Blackhawks he scored 20 goals and 19 assists with a +12 during 80 games played. So far this season he has played in 40 games he has scored 6 goals and 6 assists. Even though the statistics are not over the top like Patrick Kane, his numbers do somewhat lie. It’s players like him who set up shop in front of the net pestering defensemen and goalies which as a result creates the opportunities that are not counted as a goal or assist. This is the exact reason why the Blackhawks brought him onto this team and continue to use him in that fashion. The production in goals comes from the hot shots like Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa, and Patrick Sharp. If he gets a deflection here and there or a goal that’s more power to him and adds to the value he already brings.

Next time you are watching the Blackhawks pay close attention to Andrew Shaw’s work ethic on the ice, both surrounding the plays on the ice and away from the puck. He doesn’t stand down to anyone and frequently takes cheap shots to the ribs and back from opponent’s jabs. That’s what he is there for though and he does it without complaining, besides maybe trying to get a call his way once in a while with a little dramatization…..Wouldn’t you too? When you take a direct puck to the face and lay motionless on the ice, get stitched up, then return to the ice immediately I would say you have more room to speak. His value is clearly appreciated by the organization, coaches, teammates, and fans with plenty of room for growth.
