This year the Chicago Blackhawks had the opportunity to play in one of the biggest spotlights of the season outside of the NHL Playoffs when they took on the Washington Capitals during the Winter Classic. This was not their first Winter Classic either after hosting the second ever at Wrigley Field back in 2009. They also were chosen to host their first Stadium Series in Chicago which was played at Soldier Field last season versus the Pittsburg Penguins. Now there has been a whirlwind of reports that the Chicago Blackhawks will be playing in an outdoor game for their 3rd season in a row and their 4th overall!

If you haven’t heard yet, reports from various sports outlets are saying that the Chicago Blackhawks will be traveling to the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” for a Central Division Stadium Series rivalry matchup versus the Minnesota Wild. This would probably take place in 2016 sometime at either Target Field or TCF Bank Stadium but it has not been confirmed by the NHL yet. Speculation is that the release of this information along with the Winter Classic matchup of the Montreal Canadiens at Boston Bruins and the Stadium Series with the Detroit Red Wings traveling to Colorado to face the Avalanche will be announced during the NHL All-Star weekend in Columbus, Ohio.\
If confirmed, there will definitely be some mumbling and griping coming from other teams and fans within the league who think that they deserve a spot in an outdoor game. Some rightfully have a reason to be upset since they have not had one shot but the Blackhawks will now be on number 4.
