With the Blackhawks to play on the Kings on NBCSN’s Rivalry Night, the question arose, who are the Blackhawks biggest rivals?? Now in order to narrow the field, there will be only three rivals and they will be current rivals.  So people who were hoping that Blackhawks biggest rival would be the Toronto Maple Leafs, you are mistaken. This is despite the fact that Blackhawks have played the Leafs a franchise most 643 times. The leafs hold the ledge 286-261 with 96 ties.

Now onto the Blackhawks current top three rivals:

3rd:  Los Angeles Kings: NBC might be right tonight with the rivalry night theme. The Kings and the Blackhawks have met in the last two Western Conference Finals.    In 2013 the Blackhawks dethroned the Kings, while the Kings knocked off the Blackhawks in 2014. The 2014 series was an epic seven games series with the Kings dominating games, but the Blackhawks managed to push the series to seven games ultimately losing in seven. The Kings also probably do not forget the 4-1 drubbing the Blackhawks gave them earlier in the year. The Blackhawks currently lead the season series 1-0. If the playoffs started today, the Kings would not be in.

2nd: Detroit Red Wings: Everyone knows the Wings will ALWAYS be one of the Blackhawks biggest rivals. Blackhawks fans chant Detroit when playing other opponents at the United Center. The Detroit Rivalry has been around since 1926! Detroit defeated the Blackhawks 1-0 in the game. Detroit was the Cougars at the time, they did not become the Red Wings until 1932.  The rivalry was one sided for a while until the 2013 their semi-final playoff series. Detroit had gone up 3-1 on the Blackhawks and fans were spitting every time Justin Abdelkader or Henrik Zetterberg touched the puck. During the series the Blackhawks added more fuel to their rivalry. As everyone knows the Blackhawks rally to win in seven games and eventually go onto to win the Stanley Cup.  Despite the Wings switching to the East, they are still a bitter rival of the Blackhawks.

1st: St. Louis Blues: The Blackhawks and Blues do not like each other. Every time these two teams meet it has a playoff type atmosphere. The physicality of the game is instantly upped I.E Brent Seabrook dirty hit on David Backes last playoffs. This season regular season series is knotted at one game each. The Blues and the Blackhawks could be on another collision course this year. If they meet in the playoffs It will be like two freight trains ramming head first into each other.

Those are my top three, what are yours?
