There you have it Blackhawks fans! On his first shift only a few strides into making his first NHL appearance, Ryan Hartman made his mark with a huge check to say HELLO NHL!

Let’s be honest for the first time all season, one of the Rockford Ice Hogs came up and made a real statement in their first game.  I’m not saying that any of the other Ice Hogs failed when they arrived, I thought both defenseman the recently departed Adam Clendening and Klas Dahlbeck both proved to be more worthy of a spot in the lineup rather than Michal Rozsival on his best day, and Phillip Danault was ok in his two games while Teuvo showed he has all the skill in the world but needs to be playing with Top 6 guys not the bottom 6.

Back to Hartman, he showed on that first shift that he was strong on his skates and irritant and wasn’t afraid of anyone even if they are 6ft 5in.  It wasn’t that he was throwing his body around without showing any skill either.  He deflected pucks with his stick, he made a real nice deflection that Schneider had to make a big save on, and he made a pretty nifty pass from behind the net to set up a great chance for Bryan Bickell that only a Devils defenseman stick got in the way from a goal.

Hartman skated hard, played hard, and in the end was on the ice for nearly 10 minutes in his debut while Daniel Carcillo was only on the ice for 4:03 which really says a lot when everyone knows how much that Quenneville likes Carcillo.

More from Blackhawks News

Hartman played a game that old school Blackhawks fans really like which is throwing your body around with offensive skill. The question is was this one night just to prove a point to Ben Smith or will he get another look on Sunday.

Hartman is the first offensive guy from Rockford that looked the part and basically yelled at Quenneville and Bowman and said just try to take me out of the lineup, if the Blackhawks were looking for a IceHog to give them some life in the bottom 6 this Hartman kid has to be the right choice!

What did you think of the Hartman debut?  Do you think he should be in the lineup when the Blackhawks take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday morning or should Carcillo be back in the lineup?
