#1: Marian Hossa

It’s not hard to imagine Marian Hossa as our first star for the past week: he received the same honor throughout the NHL on Monday morning! Hossa broke out of a slump in a big way over the past several games, and the 36-year old looks a decade younger, and his stats do, too. Coming into the game against the St. Louis Blues, Hossa had only two goals in his last fifteen games. He equaled that total in the next 60 minutes, and since then, he hasn’t looked back. Hossa now has 7 goals and 1 assist in the past five games, despite being held without a point in the Blackhawks’ win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. His point production over the past five games accounts for nearly 20% of his total 42 points this season. When they are on the ice, the Blackhawks’ top line with Hossa, Jonathan Toews, and Brandon Saad has been simply dominant, burning all-star defensemen and goalies alike. The Blackhawks’ offense is a well-oiled machine once again, and it is led by the top line this time, a rarity given Patrick Kane’s dominance thus far. At this rate, it will be hard to stop the freight train that is the Chicago Blackhawks, and anyone rolling into the United Center over the next few games will certainly have their hands full.
