The Blackhawks Sign Top NCAA Free Agent Kyle Baun

The Chicago Blackhawks front office continues to stay busy after the NHL trade deadline. The Blackhawks have announced that they have signed coveted free agent Kyle Baun. Baun a junior at Colgate had been pursed by the Blackhawks, Red Wings, Flames, Jets, and Oilers. The deal is a two year deal between the Blackhawks and Baun. Baun joins Drew LeBlanc and Matt Carey as the recent college signing for the Blackhawks.

Baun is a Right Wing with great size and intelligence. He plays a responsible game and is physical along the board per Brian Bartlett. Bartlett is an NHL agent based in Boston. Baun is 6-2 and weighs 204 pounds. In three college seasons, Baun tallied 39 goals, 40 assists, and 79 points in 113 games. Baun will fill a need in the Blackhawks organization for a physical forward.

Baun will forgo his senior season to join the Blackhawks. Baun joins Blackhawks prospect Vince Hinostroza as one of the Blackhawks most recent signings. Baun now joins the young core of Blackhawks forwards prospects. The prospects include Le Blanc, Phillip Danualt, Ryan Hartman, Matt Carey, and Teuvo Teravainen. Baun will report to the Blackhawks but not be eligible for this season’s playoffs. The Blackhawks expect to have some forward spots open next season with Brad Richards, Daniel Carcillo, and possibly others being moved on from in the offseason.

While the Blackhawks continue to gear up for the playoff run, the front office is still looking toward the future.

The Chicago Blackhawks return home to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 27th. Puck drop is at 7:30pm.
