The Chicago Blackhawks have announced today that Brad Richards is out for the rest regular season.  Richards has an upper body injury that will keep him out of the Blackhawks last three games. The Blackhawks have not stated when Richards sustained the injury. Richards has been playing 15:21 per game. He currently has 12 goals and 25 assists this season. Richards will be replaced at center by Antoine Vermette.

Richards has been in the Coach Quenneville blender more than most players this season. Richards has bounced between the second and fourth lines this season. Richards will be replaced on the roster by Kyle Baun. Baun was signed by the Blackhawks on March 26th as a college free agent from Colgate. Baun hopefully will bring some youthful energy to a Blackhawks team in need of a win against the Minnesota Wild tonight.

In addition to Richards being out, Kimmo Timonen is out with an upper body injury sustained against the St. Louis Blues. Daniel Carcillo is also out with an upper body injury and has been out since March 25th.

Here is an update on another Blackhawks injury. Reports have also been released that Patrick Kane looks good and is just waiting on medical clearance. There has been INSANE spectulation that he could be ready for the first round of the playoffs. Kane most likely won’t be out 12 weeks but the first round of the playoffs might a LITTLE soon.

While Kane returning in the first round is a STRETCH. Blackhawks fans should not fret about Richards. He will be back for the playoffs. People also need not forget that Baun along with recently signed Mike Paliotta CANNOT play in the playoffs.
