When the Blackhawks called him this offseason, Scott Darling wanted to sign right away. It was Darlings dream to play for his hometown team. Darling is a native of Lemont Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

After signing the contract, the plan for Darling was to stay in Rockford. Darling had bounced around the junior leagues and semi pro leagues of hockey. He would fight for his job on a yearly basis. This season he was expected to split time with Michael Leighton at Rockford. When Crawford was injured Darling got his chance with the Blackhawks. He has made the most of his opportunity. Darling played so well that the Blackhawks sent then backup Antti Raanta to Rockford. After supplanting Raanta as the Blackhawks backup, he was rewarded with a two year contract extension. Darling is 9-3 with .939 save percentage and 1.86 goals against average.

Today marked another milestone for Darling, Darling had a new mask created. The mask embodied his perception of Chicago. He has quotes from Ferris Bueller’s Day off and the Blues Brothers. He has pictures from the city and most importantly the Indian head of the Blackhawks on the side of the mask. Darling stated after his playing days are over, he will be able to look at this mask and remember his time with the Blackhawks.

So turn up your stereo and start singing:

Come on
Baby, don’t you wanna go home
Come on
Baby, don’t you wanna go home
Back from the land of California
To my sweet home Chicago
