After their performance Friday night the Blackhawks had something to prove. The Blackhawks had been drubbed 6-2 in Nashville on Friday night. The Blackhawks decided to make a move at goal tender and benched starter Corey Crawford for Scott Darling. This was Darling’s first postseason start. Darling responded with a 35 save effort in a Blackhawks 4-2 victory. That is 77 saves on 79 shots in two games.
Here is the period Breakdown:
First Period: Coach Quenneville made some lineup changes for Game three. Andrew Desjardins and Antoine Vermette were in the lineup while Joakim Nordstrom and Teuvo Teravainen were on the bench. The Desjardin’s move paid immediate dividends. Dejardins scored the first goal of the game and gave the Blackhawks a one goal lead. The lead was short lived as Mike Ribeiro scored their equalizer less than 30 second later in the first period. After one period, the Blackhawks and Predators were tied at one. The Blackhawks outshot the Predators 14-11 in the first period.
Second Period: The second period was the best period of the playoffs for the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks had energy and attacked the Predators net. Marian Hossa was a forced to be reckoned with in this game. Hossa got the line and dropped the puck to Jonathan Toews. Toews did not miss and gave the Blackhawks a 2-1 to lead early in the second. The Blackhawks lead would be short lived as the Predators again responded with a quick goal. Mattias Ekholm scored 58 seconds into the period to tie the score. Ekholn’s goal would be the Predators final goal of the game. Brandon Saad would net the game winner at 3:38 past in the second period. It would not be a playoff series without a Brent Seabrook goal. Seabrook scored at 12:41 past in the period. The second period ended with the Blackhawks lead 4-2.
Third Period: The third period the Blackhawks would hold off the Predators for the victory. The Predators seemed to get frustrated as Ribeiro punched Andrew Shaw while Shaw was on the bench. Ribeiro should hear from the league office on that one. The final score was 4-2 in favor of the Blackhawks.
