Chicago Blackhawks: Five Reasons To Be Excited For 2015-16

After the Blackhawks Convention, the dog days of summer really seem to kick in. Many Chicago Blackhawks fans turn to other things to keep themselves occupied until October: vacation, baseball or just re-watching games from a pretty epic 2014-15 season. Even with these distractions, the wait seems excruciating. It’s a little over two months now, and corny as it sounds, the Oct. 7 season opener at home will be here before you know it. There are many reasons to be excited for the upcoming season, but I’ve listed my top five reasons below.

5. Raising the banner and looking to repeat

Relatively speaking, we haven’t had to wait too long in between banner raising ceremonies. In fact, there has been a shorter wait this time around than the time before (one season instead of two). But this one seems particularly special. Dynasty or not, there is no denying that this is the Golden Age of the Chicago Blackhawks. Fans argue about how it compares to the 1990s Chicago Bulls team and its not one, but two “three-peats.” I’m not sure that comparison is fair, much less warranted, given the differences in the two leagues, the point in time and the players. In any case, there is a lot of optimism from within the organization that next season’s roster will be just as strong as, if not stronger than, the one of this past season. But there is some doubt among fans and commentators alike, given the necessary moves made due to the unforgiving hard salary cap, combined with a couple of mega-contracts kicking in.
