Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- That Escalated Quickly

By Keith Schultz

Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! Well yesterday sure escalated quickly.  One rumor was floated out there that a salary cap dump could be coming this weekend and when the dust settled the Chicago Blackhawks had traded away Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom while re-signing Marcus Kruger to a one year deal.

In one afternoon the Chicago Blackhawks signed their last free agent, and cleared enough salary cap to get the season started with their current roster with the possibility of a free 750,000 for other roster moves by Stan Bowman.

The entire summer we asked about Marcus Kruger and would the franchise take care of him, and in the end it looks like he took a hometown discount with probably the hand shake agreement for a long-term contract after this season.  Kruger is the perfect role player for the Chicago Blackhawks system, he centers the 4th line that chews up possession time and he’s one of teams best assets on the penalty kill.

On the other hand for the second time in Kris Versteeg‘s career, He won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks and then get traded the next summer.  Versteeg will always have a place in Hawks fans memories for the good and the bad, but in the end he will always be a two-time Stanley Cup Champion.  Here are some morning links to kick off your weekend.
