Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- Weekend Shift

Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! This weekend we saw a shift in the salary cap of our favorite franchise.  We said goodbye to Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom, and hello to a possible third pairing defenseman in Jan Hejda.

The salary cap era sure is tough one for fans, it used to be a player would be on your roster for a decade. Now even a young stud like Brandon Saad could stick around for half a decade in the wonderful world of the NHL salary cap.

The one thing Stan Bowman has done since taking over the GM roles from Dale Tallon is keep the core in tact, and the core has done a pretty fantastic job in the past 8 seasons by winning 3 Stanley Cups.  The question is who will the new core be, I felt like Saad was part of the core and this summer he’s gone.

Now the Chicago Blackhawks have another young gun in Marko Dano, and the seasons success my hinge on whether or not he can fill or come close to filling Brandon Saad‘s role. This makes for an exciting training camp/preseason story, but part of me wishes we could go back thirty years and truly have a roster for the ages.

Here are some morning links to kick off you Sunday morning.
