Brent Seabrook Signs 8 Year Extension

By Keith Schultz

Brent Seabrook and the Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to an 8 year extension with an average 6.85 million dollars per season. Brent Seabrook is a three time Stanley Cup champion and now will be a Chicago Blackhawk for life with his contract lasting until his late 30’s.

Brent Seabrook had one season left on his contract that was worth 5.8 million dollars, and instead of having him worry about his contract throughout the season, Stan Bowman and the Chicago Blackhawks organization rewarded him with an extension before the season started.

Brent Seabrook may not be a stallworth during the regular season, but he’s a gamer once the season turns to the playoffs, and especially in overtime he’s been so clutch.  He’s scored one of the biggest goals of his career when he picked up the overtime winner in Game #7 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals against the Detroit Red Wings.

Seabrook has three game winning goals in his playoff career and they all have come in the extra session. He scored a big game winner this past season in the opening round against the Nashville Predators in triple overtime.

Seabrook has been a Chicago Blackhawks for life since being drafted by them in 2003 during the first round with the 14th selection. He’s been on the team since 2005, so he suffered through the worst of times as a Chicago Blackhawk and of course the best of times with the team winning three Stanley Cups in the past 6 seasons.

Seabrook of course has been the long time partner of Duncan Keith on defense for most of their tenure with the Chicago Blackhawks, and now Seabrook and Duncan Keith are locked up for the next 7 seasons. While Duncan Keith has all of the accolades from 2 Norris Trophies and 1 Conn Smythe Trophy, Seabrook has been his trusty partner and one of the best defensive pairing for the past decade in the NHL.

Seabrook’s career numbers are as follows

Seabrook and Keith will become only the 13th and 14th players all-time in Chicago Blackhawks franchise history to play 800 games this coming season, and of course they will be raising their third Stanley Cup Championship banner in franchise history on October 7th.

The length of the contract may be a year too long, but the dollars seems about right for Seabrook! What do you think of the extension?
