Patrick Kane has returned to the ice, and if the pre-season is any indication, he is in as good of shape as he ever has been. As he prepares for another season on the ice, the legal controversy surrounding Kane’s off-ice incident continues to swirl.

With each development, the case seems to get more and more twisted. What stands out about the proceedings, however, is that the accusations have been public for nearly two months, but no formal charges have been laid.

If that happens, however, Kane will most certainly be yanked off the Blackhawks’ active roster until everything is settled. Depending on the outcome (guilty, or an out-of-court settlement), the Blackhawks could suspend Kane from their team, or watch as the NHL hands down a suspension of their own. Either way, Kane likely has a lot on his mind as he starts the season with the ‘Hawks, something not many thought he would do, just a few weeks ago.

The Blackhawks could potentially lose a player that challenged for the Art Ross trophy just last season, and not only suffer the loss of his production, but tarnish their name and image, something that no organization wants.
