2. David Backes
I mean, just look at that face. Backes just looks menacing and grimacing. He’d fit in well in a Nightmare Before Christmas remake. Anyway, Backes makes Kesler look like a fly on the wall when it comes to agitating Blackhawks players. There might not be a more hated foe among fans than Backes. David Backes represents the perfect evil villain in the heated Blackhawks-Blues rivalry.
Who can forget this haunting moment from the 2014 postseason: “Wakey, wakey, Backes.” Sounds like the newest catchphrase in the next Paranormal Activity movie. Talk about frightening.
Backes doesn’t just represent a haunter in image and history alone. Take this into account: Backes has committed 103 penalty minutes against Chicago alone. The most penalty minutes he has against any other team is the 79 he has racked up against the Minnesota Wild.
Then again, Blackhawks fans may not be terribly scared of Backes because of Chicago’s recent playoff success against the Blues. The Blackhawks hate Backes, and Backes hates the Blackhawks. It doesn’t get much uglier than this rivalry in the NHL.
