The move most Chicago Blackhawks fans have been questioning the most has finally has come to pass. The Chicago Blackhawks almost shockingly sent Bryan Bickell down to Rockford to play with the IceHogs, and they have recalled Marko Dano.
The Chicago Blackhawks put Bickell on waivers before the season started and were still able to reassign him to Rockford today without going through the waiver process again. The word on the street was that the waiver deal was pretty much a wake up call for Bickell which hasn’t played well since the 2014 playoffs. Bickell has played in 7 of the first 11 games with pretty much absolutely nothing to show for it on the scoresheet. No goals No assists No points, and pretty much no hits. This is with Bickell playing on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa for some of his 7 games played.
The call up of Marko Dano is one we have been calling for from the day they sent the youngster down to Rockford before the season. Dano is the one player on the roster that played well on the Joel Quenneville named Lottery Line during training camp. I don’t have the direct quote, but during the scrimmages during training camp when Dano was scoring routinely Toews and Hossa basically said that they needed to pick up their scoring to match that of Dano’s.

Something happened from training camp to the preseason, because Dano wasn’t playing much with Toews and Hossa and was being tried out with other players and then all of a sudden Quenneville soured on the rookie and said that he needed to work on his game in Rockford. Of course this worked out perfectly for Teuvo Teravainen last season so the coaching staff probably wanted to serve some humble pie to the rookie before handing him the keys to the corvette or lottery line since it worked before with Teuvo.
In 9 games with the Rockford Ice Hogs, Dano is the 2nd leading scorer on the team with 1 goal and 6 assists for 7 points, and only trails Tanner Kero who already has been called up to Chicago. The Chicago Blackhawks have been struggling to score goals if you throw out the Minnesota game so the addition of Dano should only help the team in that area sooner than later.
It’s still a shock that the 29 year old Bickell who has played in the Chicago system his entire career is going back to Rockford, but if the waivers thing didn’t wake him up to get his game on track then a trip to the Rockford Ice Hogs better!
