The Chicago Blackhawks were defeated by the New Jersey Devils 4-2 on Friday night. While the score appeared to be close, the game was really never that close. The Blackhawks trailed 3-0 after the first period which lead to Corey Crawford‘s benching. Crawford has struggled away from the home this season.

At home Crawford is 5-1-1 with a 1.99 goals against average and .927 save percentage. On the road Crawford is 1-3-0 with a 3.32 goals against average and .899 save percentage.  Scott Darling‘s numbers follow a similar pattern but he has only appeared in three games, two of them on the road. The goalies are not the only ones struggling on the road. At home Patrick Kane has 14 points with 5 goals and 9 assists. On the road, Kane has  4 goals and 1 assist. Overall as a team the Blackhawks at home have scored  24 goals and allowed only 14. While on the road they have only scored 11 goals while allowing 21. The Blackhawks are currently riding a 5 game road losing streak and have been outscored 19 to 8 in those five games.  The numbers tell the story. At home they are 6-0-1 and on the road they are 1-5-0.

There were two positives from the game against the Devils. Tanner Kero did notch his first NHL goal and Kane kept his point streak going  Kane’s point streak is now at 9 games. Darling also played well in relief allowing 1 goal in 13 attempts. His save percentage for the game was .923. With the Circus trip coming up very fast the Blackhawks have to improve their record on the road. The Blackhawks currently sit 6th in the Central Division.
