The most frightening hit during the Chicago Blackhawks Toews/Kane era by far has to be the one that Raffi Torres put on Marian Hossa in the 2012 playoffs. Hossa was down on the ice for a long time, and we wouldn’t see him again until January of 2013 after the lockout was finished.
Torres, as we all know, is a cheap-shot artist and recently was suspended for half of a season for his pre-season goonery. The Blackhawks never really responded to Torres during the playoff series, which the Coyotes won 4-2 in 2012. The next season in February the two teams met, and it was the veteran Jamal Mayers who would take on Torres.
Mayers may not have been the greatest player to ever wear a Chicago Blackhawks jersey, but he was a great leader, among the reasons the Blackhawks petitioned to have his name on the Stanley Cup for the 2013 season.
