Scott Darling‘s Relief Appearance
Lemont native Scott Darling was probably sitting on the bench for Game 1 of the 2015 NHL playoffs thinking he had the best seat in the house to watch the Blackhawks-Predators series. He probably never in his wildest dreams thought he would be in the game when the second period began, but there he was in net after a disappointing first period from the Chicago defense and Corey Crawford, and the ’Hawks trailing 3-0.
Darling would just go on to make 42 saves on the evening and hold the Nashville Predators without a goal for the rest of the contest until the Chicago Blackhawks offense could find a way to tie the game and then go two more extra periods before finding the winning goal.
The win was fantastic, but it all pointed back to Darling, who came in and shut down the Predators attack for five periods of action, which is hard to believe from the backup goalie.
The ’Hawks don’t escape the Predators in 2015 without the play of Darling, especially early when the defense struggled.
