The Chicago Blackhawks look to continue their winning ways against the Central Division at the United Center tonight when the Colorado Avalanche make their first visit of the season. It’s been a good stretch at home so far for the Blackhawks winning three straight in December on home ice against the Central Division.
The Colorado Avalanche currently sit in last place in the Central Division, but they have had a very good run in their last 10 going 6-4 and they are on a 2 game winning streak. The Av’s problem is they are giving up a ton of goals and while they score a bunch too, it’s just not as many as they are giving up. They have given up 88 while scoring 85, and they are a strange team that they are above .500 on the road at 10-9 while going 4-7-1 on home ice a mile above sea level in Denver.
The Avs also have Semyon Varlamov who’s been a Chicago Blackhawks killer since Patrick Roy became the head coach in Colorado. It’s interesting that the Chicago Blackhawks usually solve great goalies like Jonathan Quick and Pekka Rinne, but they really haven’t solved Varlamov quite yet.
The Chicago Blackhawks have been slowly climbing up the ladder in the Central Division with their play slowly looking more like the Chicago Blackhawks, and then low and behold Stan Bowman makes a trade. Rob Scuderi will be in the lineup tonight playing along side Michal Rozsival which has to go down as one of the oldest pairings in Blackhawks history. Trevor Daley may not have fit the system very well, but I’d rather have a fast defenseman then a 36 year old grizzled veteran that is slow.
