June 30th, 2015: The Blackhawks trade Brandon Saad, left wing, Michael Paliotta, defenseman, Alex Broadhurst, center, for Jeremy Morin, right wing, Corey Tropp, right wing, Artem Anisimov, center, and Marko Dano, right wing

Initial Reaction: WHAT?! WHY?! Outcry! They traded Saad and got Morin back! Saad was arguably the Blackhawks’ best young forward. He will be sorely missed. The overpriced deal for Bryan Bickell was one reason for this deal. Dano was the jewel of the trade, and Anisimov would solidify the second-line center position.

Current Assessment: Saad wanted more money than the Blackhawks could afford. The Blackhawks got a good return for Saad instead of getting nothing for him. Saad would receive a $6-million-a-year contract. Dano was supposed to be the piece that would make up for the loss of Saad. Dano had 21 points in 35 games with Blue Jackets last season. Dano has been a bust thus far, as he is currently in Rockford. Anisimov has been the best player in this deal. He has 20 points on the most-productive line for the Blackhawks. Saad has 26 points but had been sent to the fourth line at one time. The deal has worked out better for the Blackhawks because they have a better team.
