February 23, 2015: Scott Darling, goaltender, signed a 2-year extension for $1.175 million

Initial Reaction: The Blackhawks made a solid investment in a backup goalie. He posted impressive numbers during the regular season.

Current Assessment: Darling outperformed his career averages last season. With the Rockford IceHogs he had a 2.20 goals against average and 1.94 goals-against average.  Before last season, his lowest goals-against average was 2.00 with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2013-14. He became a huge asset for the Blackhawks during Corey Crawford’s injuries and early struggles in the playoffs. This season, he has not performed as well as last season. Darling has just eight starts with the Blackhawks.

Grade: B-. Darling was very valuable last year and hopefully will right the ship this season.
